KUWAIT, June 26 (KUNA) — On this day in Kuwait’s history, several significant events took place. In 1961, Kuwaitis demonstrated against Iraqi ruler Abdulkarim Qassem’s annexation demands, with Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah praising their loyalty to the Amir. That same year, Saudi Arabia sent forces to Kuwait in line with a defense pact, and Kuwait joined the Arab Postal Union. In 2000, Kuwait’s parliament approved bills on private universities and state-owned real estate claims. In 2011, the Kuwait Oil Company won an international safety award, and in 2014, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed an agreement with Lebanon for a water project. Additionally, in 2015, a tragic terrorist attack occurred at Imam Al-Sadeq Mosque, resulting in 25 fatalities and 202 injuries. KUWAIT, June 26 (KUNA) n– n1961 — The Kuwaiti people held huge demonstrations condemning statements by the Iraqi ruler Abdulkarim Qassem demanding annexation of the state of Kuwait. Chief of Kuwaiti Police and Public Security Appartus Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah made a statement lauding the protestors for manifesting sincere faithfulness to the Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and their readiness to defend Kuwait ‘s freedom, sovereignty and independence. n1961 — Saudi King Saud bin Abdulaziz sent a number of forces, headed by Major-General Ibrahim Hassaan, to the State of Kuwait after the Iraqi regime deployed forces and demanded annexation of Kuwait. The Saudi forces deployment was in line with a defence pact that Saudi Arabia and State of Kuwait signed in 1948. n1961 — The State of Kuwait joins the Arab Postal Union (APU). n2000 — Kuwait ‘s National Assembly (parliament) endorsed a bill for establishing private universities. It has advised these colleges to ensure adherence to the common ethics and Islamic norms within campuses. n2000 — The National Assembly approved a bill regarding claims for state-owned real-estate plots. n2005 -The Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS) enforced amended pension buyout system 2007 — Abdulaziz Yaaqoub Al-Rushaid died at the age of 79.
