Researchers from Cancer Research UK have calculated the number of working years lost due to the disease, along with the expected economic output of individuals during that time.
They found that cancer deaths among young people aged between 25 and 49 have a significant impact on the overall economic output, costing the economy 3.2 billion pounds annually, according to British news agency PA Media on Friday.
When it comes to cancer types, lung cancer is responsible for the largest overall income loss to the economy at 1.7 billion pounds annually, with 54,000 lost productive life years.
