Kuwait Cabinet agrees to rename civil aviation body

KUWAIT, July 1 (KUNA) — The Kuwaiti Cabinet has approved a draft decree-law that will rename the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as the “Public Authority for Civil Aviation”. This decision was made during the Cabinet’s regular weekly meeting at Bayan Palace, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereeda Al-Mousherji, this action demonstrates the Kuwaiti government’s recognition of the urgent need for updated and comprehensive legislation to govern the country’s civil aviation sector. The new legislation is expected to enhance the resilience of this critical sector and keep pace with global developments in the field. At the beginning of its weekly meeting, the Cabinet was briefed on letters sent to His Highness the Amir from leaders of several friendly and sisterly countries concerning areas of joint cooperation across various sectors. The Cabinet also approved another draft decree-law that replaces Article (58 bis) of Law No. (31)/1970, amending certain provisions of Penal Code No. (16)/1960. This amendment specifies that any civil servant who intentionally refuses to execute a court ruling within 90 days of being notified will face imprisonment for up to two years and a fine ranging from KD 3,000 to KD 20,000, or either punishment alone. During the meeting, the Cabinet also endorsed recommendations from the ministerial committee of legal affairs regarding draft laws, agreements, and memoranda of understanding between Kuwait and other friendly and sisterly countries. The move was decided during the Cabinet ‘s customary weekly meeting, held at Bayan Palace under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
It reflects the Kuwaiti government ‘s realization of the dire need for a modern and integrated piece of legislation to regulate the country ‘s civil aviation, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereeda Al-Mousherji said in a press statement following the meeting.
This fresh legislation, the minister maintained, would ensure this vital sector ‘s required resilience to cope with global advancements in this domain.
