KUWAIT, July 6 (KUNA) — UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that the United Kingdom is committed to enhancing cooperation with Kuwait across trade, investment, and security, particularly amid ongoing global challenges.
Speaking exclusively to KUNA on Sunday at the Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Diplomatic Institute, Lammy emphasized the long-standing and robust relationship between the UK and Kuwait, describing it as a partnership rooted in over a century of mutual trust and collaboration.
He highlighted the strong cultural and educational connections between the two nations, noting that the presence of approximately 10,000 Kuwaiti students in British universities plays a key role in shaping the future of bilateral relations.
Lammy explained that his visit is part of an ongoing strategic dialogue aimed at defining the next phase of cooperation between the UK and Kuwait. He praised Kuwait’s influential role in the Gulf and Middle East and expressed confidence that the two countries can achieve meaningful progress together.
The Foreign Secretary also acknowledged the current global geopolitical tensions and humanitarian crises, reaffirming both nations’ shared commitment to easing civilian suffering, particularly in Gaza, through efforts to secure a ceasefire and provide humanitarian aid.
He added that UK-Kuwait collaboration extends to addressing crises in regions such as Sudan, Somalia, and Yemen, where health and humanitarian emergencies remain pressing concerns.
Lammy expressed satisfaction over the signing of several memoranda of understanding, which align resources and development goals not only for mutual benefit but also to support vulnerable populations worldwide.
