EASTERN KENTUCKY — Governor Andy Beshear and Congressman Harold Rogers (KY-05) have announced nearly $26 million in federal funding to support economic revitalization in the Eastern Appalachian region of Kentucky. The announcement was made during the annual SOAR conference in Corbin.
The funds are allocated through the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization (AMLER) Program and will be distributed to 15 recipients across 11 counties. Once completed, these initiatives are projected to create or retain over 3,500 jobs and provide annual training for up to 1,200 Kentuckians.
Projects funded include the Aviation Center STEM Career Training Initiative in Greenup County, aimed at expanding science and technology education; the City of Ashland Conference Center in Boyd County, designed to boost tourism and business events; an environmental resilience and water infrastructure upgrade in Cannonsburg; the Lake Point Sewer Extension Project in Jackson; the Paintsville Independent School STEAM Program to enhance K–12 education; and the Pathways Autism Center in Carter County, which will expand support services for individuals with autism.
Additional investments will improve healthcare access, upgrade drinking water and wastewater systems, expand high-tech workforce training, and stimulate tourism and broader economic development.
“Eastern Kentucky’s future is bright, and today’s investments will help ensure long-term prosperity for generations,” said Governor Beshear in a press release. “Team Kentucky remains committed to expanding workforce opportunities, building stronger communities, and delivering modern services to families, all while sustaining our rapidly growing economy.”
