Artificial intelligence is emerging as a central pillar of Vietnam’s long-term economic vision, according to Tuan Minh Pham, CEO of FPT Software and executive vice president of FPT Corporation, speaking at NVIDIA AI Day in Ho Chi Minh City. The event, part of NVIDIA’s global series to promote AI innovation, brought together developers, researchers, startups, and industry leaders to explore cutting-edge advancements in AI technologies.
Vietnam aims to establish three national data centers and rank among the top four AI-powered economies in Southeast Asia by 2030. This ambition reflects a broader understanding of technological sovereignty, where control over digital infrastructure is seen as vital to national security, citizen privacy, and resilience against external influences.
Pham emphasized that the country’s mission extends beyond economic development: “Nowadays, in the tech era, sovereignty also extends to technology. Our mission is not only to develop the country or protect our independence in cyberspace but also to ensure national security, the privacy of our people and resilience against external factors.” He added that sovereign AI—domestically developed and controlled artificial intelligence systems—will be crucial in helping Vietnam scale rapidly and close the gap with more advanced nations.
The government’s strategic focus on AI aligns with efforts to modernize infrastructure, enhance innovation capacity, and build a skilled workforce. By integrating AI across sectors, Vietnam seeks to boost productivity, drive digital transformation, and strengthen its position in the global technology landscape.
NVIDIA’s AI Days serve as platforms for knowledge exchange and collaboration, supporting local ecosystems in harnessing AI for economic and social progress. The Ho Chi Minh City event highlighted the growing momentum behind Vietnam’s tech ambitions and its commitment to becoming a regional leader in intelligent technologies.
