Foreign Minister: Peace Is Foundational to Economic Growth

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan emphasized during his address at the G20 ministers of foreign affairs meeting in South Africa that lasting peace is a cornerstone for economic expansion. The gathering, held under the theme “Eighty Years of the United Nations: Reaffirming Peace as the Path to Sustainable Economic Development,” took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Prince Faisal highlighted the importance of international economic cooperation and the reinforcement of multilateral institutions, particularly the United Nations and the G20, as essential platforms for addressing global political and economic challenges. He noted that the world currently faces growing inequalities, economic disruptions, and regional and international tensions.

He pointed out that digital transformation and the green economy present significant opportunities for building more resilient and inclusive economies, especially benefiting women and youth. The Kingdom has made notable progress in strengthening its economic resilience despite global headwinds, maintaining stable inflation, achieving robust growth in non-oil GDP, and reaching record-low unemployment rates.

The minister reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to advancing economic diplomacy to bridge developmental and security policies, fostering global peace and prosperity. He stressed that such efforts are vital for sustainable progress in an increasingly interconnected world.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Affairs and General Supervisor of the Public Diplomacy Agency.
