Federal Grants Awarded to Support Economic and Youth Initiatives in Mississippi

Congressman Bennie G. Thompson announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Administration for Children and Families, has allocated over $1 million in federal funding to support community development and youth services in Mississippi.

The Jackson Resource Center will receive $800,000 under the Community Economic Development Program. These funds will be used to help launch six small businesses in Jackson, including a restaurant, a coffee shop, a print and design service, a web and social media company, a studio, and a daycare facility. The initiative is projected to create 25 permanent full-time positions within the local community.

Additionally, the Mississippi Children’s Home Society has been granted $245,000 by the Family and Youth Services Bureau. This funding will go toward supporting the Warren County Children’s Shelter, enhancing services for vulnerable youth in the region.

The investment underscores a broader effort to stimulate local entrepreneurship and strengthen social support systems for young people facing hardship.
