VALLEY HEAD, Ala. (WAFF) – A significant economic transformation is underway in Valley Head, a small town in DeKalb County, thanks to a major investment by G2 Supply. The company is revitalizing a long-vacant 180,000-square-foot facility, marking a pivotal moment for the local economy. n nThis development follows the 2016 closure of Shaw Industries, which left nearly 300 residents without employment. With fewer than 600 residents, the impact of that shutdown was deeply felt across the community. Mayor Karen Vest emphasized the importance of this new venture, calling it a lifeline for the town. n nG2 Supply, already operating in nearby Fort Payne, specializes in packaging, shipping, and industrial materials. Its expansion into Valley Head is expected to create 60 new jobs initially, with plans to potentially double that number in the coming years. n nThe project became feasible through collaboration with the DeKalb County Economic Development Authority, which approved a tax abatement agreement to support the initiative. n nCommunity response has been overwhelmingly positive. Mayor Vest described the reaction as electric, with residents expressing excitement in public spaces and even visitors from outside the area reaching out in support. She referred to the project as a game changer for the town’s future. n nThis revitalization effort not only brings employment opportunities but also reactivates underutilized infrastructure, signaling renewed confidence in the region’s economic potential. n

Big economic boost coming to Valley Head after G2 Supply expansion
VALLEY HEAD, Ala. (WAFF) – One town in DeKalb County is getting an economic boost … in a big way. n nA supply company is making a huge investment into a long-abandoned building and bringing dozens of jobs with them. n nWAFF 48’s Will Eldridge talked to Valley Head’s mayor, Karen Vest about G2 Supply’s big plans. n nVest said this is a move that breathes new life into the local economy and fills a big void after the closure of Shaw Industries in 2016. n n“I mean, obviously, we have less than 600 citizens. When a facility shuts down and puts nearly 300 people out of jobs, and then you bring someone back after almost a decade and breathe life into a building, it’s very important,” Vest said. n nNow G2 Supply is expanding its operation into this 180,000 square foot facility. n nThe company will bring 60 jobs with it, with the potential to double its workforce in the coming years. n nMayor Vest also says that the community reaction was something special. n n“It was just incredible. I mean, like I said, the entire community, once we made it public, everybody was reaching out like ‘Oh my god.’ I mean, I had people stopping me on the streets, I had people from out of town, I know, yeah, it’s just, it’s a game changer, it really is.” n nDeKalb County Economic Development Authority worked with Valley Head on a tax abatement plan that made G2’s expansion a reality. n nG2 Supply is a single-source provider of packaging, shipping, and industrial supplies that already has operations in Fort Payne. n nClick Here to Subscribe on YouTube: Watch the latest WAFF 48 news, sports & weather videos on our YouTube channel!
