Bita Kovea-Brooks, Deputy Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund, stated that the peace agreement ending two years of conflict in Gaza presents a significant opportunity for sustained economic revival in the region.
In a statement released on Tuesday, she emphasized the IMF’s readiness to work alongside the international community to support reconstruction in Gaza and neighboring economies severely impacted by the conflict, including Egypt and Jordan.
She noted that the Fund has already upgraded its economic projections for Egypt, forecasting real GDP growth of 4.3 percent in 2025 and 4.5 percent in 2026. This improvement is attributed to strong performance in tourism and non-oil manufacturing sectors, which have offset declines in Suez Canal revenues caused by regional instability.
However, she projected a recovery in canal operations and mining activities by 2026, further supporting the country’s economic rebound.
