COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) — A major shift in economic advocacy is underway in South Carolina as two prominent business organizations join forces to amplify their influence. The newly formed “South Carolina Manufacturers and Commerce” unites the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance, collectively representing over 900 companies statewide.
Governor Henry McMaster, speaking at the State House during the announcement, signaled an aggressive push for economic advancement. “We’re shifting into high gear—everyone should prepare, because real momentum is building,” he said.
Thomas Rhodes, chair of the former Chamber of Commerce, described the consolidation as more than administrative restructuring. “This isn’t just about merging two groups. It’s about creating a more powerful, unified, and forward-looking voice for industry and enterprise across the state,” Rhodes stated.
The combined entity will consolidate expertise, advocacy initiatives, and operational resources to enhance the state’s business environment. Core objectives include reducing tax burdens, ensuring affordable and reliable energy access, modernizing infrastructure, and reforming litigation procedures.
Sara Hazzard, who will lead the organization as president and CEO, stressed the value of a cohesive business community. “When companies speak in unison, we strengthen the conditions that drive economic vitality and business success. And when businesses thrive, so do South Carolina’s families and communities,” Hazzard noted.
The integration will become official on January 1, 2026, with Hazzard transitioning from her current role leading the Manufacturers Alliance to helm the unified group. Many of the organization’s strategic goals align with legislative priorities, offering potential for collaboration when lawmakers reconvene in the new year.

Henry McMaster said. n nLeaders made the announcement Tuesday morning at the State House. n nThomas Rhodes, South Carolina Chamber of Commerce chair, said the merger represents more than just combining two entities. n n“This merger represents far more than the joining of two entities. It represents a louder, stronger, and more forward-thinking voice for business and industry in South Carolina,” Rhodes said. n nThe organization will pool resources, experience and advocacy work into a joint, streamlined effort to improve South Carolina’s business climate. Key priorities include lowered taxes, energy affordability and access, lawsuit reform and infrastructure modernization. n nSara Hazzard, who will serve as president and CEO of the new organization, emphasized the importance of unified business advocacy. n n“When businesses speak with one clear voice, we can strengthen what makes our economy thrive and our businesses prosper. Because when South Carolina businesses succeed, our people succeed,” Hazzard said. n nThe merger will officially take effect Jan. 1, 2026.
