Sarasota’s October Tourism Sees Rise in Visitors and Spending Despite Lower Occupancy

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – In October 2025, Sarasota County experienced an uptick in tourist activity, with both visitor numbers and spending showing notable growth, although year-over-year comparisons remain influenced by disruptions from Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. The latest figures indicate an 8.1% increase in visitation, rising to 93,600 travelers compared to 86,600 during the same month the previous year. Direct visitor expenditures climbed 14.7%, reaching $93.76 million, up from $81.71 million in October 2024.

Despite these gains, lodging metrics revealed shifting travel behaviors. Overall occupancy declined by 5.3%, dropping to 46.6% from 49.2% the prior year. Meanwhile, the average daily rate jumped significantly—by 34.2%—to $245.15. The number of room nights sold also decreased slightly, falling to 191,200 from 197,100 in 2024, suggesting travelers are paying more per night but staying for shorter durations or booking less frequently.
