Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met with Claire Legendre, the French President’s advisor for Middle East affairs, on Saturday, December 13, on the sidelines of the Sir Bani Yas Forum in the UAE. The discussion emphasized the strategic partnership between Egypt and France, with both sides expressing interest in deepening economic and commercial cooperation and increasing French investments in Egypt. Areas highlighted for collaboration include industry, transportation, tourism, culture, and education. Abdelatty welcomed the upcoming first round of strategic dialogue between the Egyptian and French foreign ministries.
On the Palestinian issue, the minister appreciated France’s support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and underscored Egypt’s ongoing efforts to uphold the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. He stressed the importance of coordinated international action to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and swiftly establish an international stabilization force in Gaza. He also highlighted the need to advance the formation of a Palestinian technocratic committee to administer the Gaza Strip.
Abdelatty emphasized ensuring unimpeded and secure delivery of humanitarian aid amid worsening conditions in Gaza. He reiterated the necessity of creating a viable political horizon for a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian cause through the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The situation in Sudan was also discussed. Abdelatty briefed the French official on Egypt’s role within the Quad initiative aimed at achieving a ceasefire and enabling an inclusive Sudanese political process. He reaffirmed Egypt’s consistent stance on safeguarding Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity, opposing any division, and supporting state institutions.
He called for unified regional and international efforts to advance de-escalation, secure a ceasefire, and ensure humanitarian access. Additionally, the minister updated his counterpart on the outcomes of his recent visit to Lebanon, reiterating Egypt’s firm position against any violation of Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized support for national institutions to fully assume their responsibilities in maintaining Lebanon’s security and stability, urging restraint to prevent escalation and protect Lebanon’s independence.
