This awakening, he noted, is reflected in efforts to establish economic agreements with countries sometimes viewed as adversaries by the United States.
Boelski addressed the possibility of closer ties between Europe, China, and Russia. While acknowledging China’s role as a major trading partner for the EU, he emphasized that Russia is widely seen as a threat, particularly due to its military actions in Ukraine. “Russia is attacking a nation we regard as part of our continental family,” he said, adding that Ukraine is effectively fighting on Europe’s behalf, even though it is not a NATO or EU member.
He also highlighted that discussions within European institutions about diversifying economic partnerships have been ongoing for years. The European Parliament continues to examine ways to strengthen strategic independence and reduce overreliance on U.S. foreign and economic policy.
