CFPB Drops Lawsuit Against Capital One Bank That Accused It of Tricking Customers

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has dropped its lawsuit against Capital One, which accused the bank of deceptive practices leading to $2 billion in lost interest payments for customers. This decision comes as Russell Vought, director of the White House budget office and acting head of the CFPB, moves to dismantle the agency. Under Vought’s leadership, the bureau has ceased operations, placing staff on leave and halting most legal actions. The CFPB also ended cases against other entities, including the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency and Rocket Homes Real Estate. Vought has publicly supported some companies, calling them “innovative,” signaling a shift in consumer protection policies. — news from The New York Times
