DENVER (AP) — A woman named Lucy Grace Nelson has been charged in federal court for vandalism at a Colorado Tesla dealership. The incidents involved Molotov cocktails thrown at vehicles and graffiti labeling the building as “Nazi cars,” alongside a message targeting Tesla co-founder Elon Musk. Nelson appeared in court briefly, facing charges of malicious destruction of property. During the hearing, Magistrate Judge N. Reid Neureiter informed Nelson of her rights while her attorney, public defender Jennifer Beck, intervened when Nelson attempted to speak. The federal government is pursuing the case due to the danger posed by the alleged use of incendiary devices. Nelson, who was previously arrested on state charges, is now in federal custody and is scheduled for another hearing to determine if she will remain detained. Conviction could result in at least five years imprisonment. The case occurs amid concerns over Musk’s influence and follows protests at Tesla locations nationwide. According to the criminal complaint, Nelson allegedly ignited fires using Molotov cocktails near dealership vehicles, causing between $5,000 and $20,000 in damages. Loveland police are also investigating potential accomplices. At the time of her arrest, materials such as spray paint, gasoline, bottles, and cloth were found in Nelson’s car. — news from The Associated Press
