On The Border, a national Tex-Mex restaurant chain, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed several locations in Michigan. The company aims to address financial challenges and emerge stronger through this restructuring process. On The Border president Chris Rockwood stated that the support from vendors and lenders will facilitate a quick and efficient sale process while focusing on employees and guests. Paperwork filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Georgia indicates the company seeks to reject leases at 77 unprofitable locations, including four in Michigan that have already shut down. The closed Michigan restaurants are located in Auburn Hills, Holland, Novi, and Westland. Despite these closures, On The Border continues to operate three restaurants in Allen Park, Grandville, and Kentwood, with 60 restaurants remaining open nationwide. The bankruptcy proceedings will be used to drive operational improvements and pursue the sale of most of its assets. This move adds to the list of major retailers and restaurants closing locations recently, including Red Lobster, Joann, Red Robin, and Macy’s. — news from MLive.com
