Meta is trying to stop a former employee from promoting her book about Facebook

Meta has achieved an early win in its effort to stop a tell-all memoir by a former policy executive turned whistleblower. An arbitrator has ruled in favor of Meta, stating that the author, Sarah Wynn-Williams, should cease selling and publicizing her book, which went on sale earlier this week. The book, titled Careless People, reveals new details about Mark Zuckerberg’s push to bring Facebook to China a decade ago. It also accuses Meta’s current policy chief, Joel Kaplan, of inappropriate behavior and shares embarrassing details about Zuckerberg’s interactions with world leaders. Meta claims Wynn-Williams was fired in 2017 and argues she violated a non-disparagement agreement. The arbitrator’s decision orders her to stop making disparaging comments about Meta and halt further publishing or distributing of the book. It remains unclear what this means for the book, which is already available for sale. \nThe publisher, Flatiron Books, named in Meta’s complaint, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. — news from Engadget
