An American Airlines Boeing 737-800 caught fire at Denver International Airport on Thursday. The incident occurred after the plane was diverted to Denver shortly following its departure from Colorado Springs due to the crew reporting engine vibrations. While taxiing to the gate, the engine caught fire, leading to an emergency evacuation of the 172 passengers and six crew members on board.
The event, which took place around 5:15 p.m. local time, resulted in smoke spreading across the tarmac. Six passengers were transported to the hospital for evaluation, though all passengers managed to exit the aircraft with only minor injuries sustained during the evacuation.
American Airlines expressed gratitude towards their crew, the Denver team, and first responders for prioritizing the safety of everyone involved. The airline is arranging a replacement aircraft to ensure passengers reach their intended destination, Dallas Fort-Worth.
The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) is currently investigating the cause of the incident.
