WASHINGTON, March 13 (Reuters) – U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy informed Congress of an agreement signed with Elon Musk’s government reform team to assist the financially struggling USPS in addressing significant operational issues. The independent government agency, which employs 635,000 and incurred a $9.5 billion loss last year, is exempt from broader federal workforce reductions directed by Musk’s team. DeJoy mentioned plans to reduce the USPS workforce by 10,000 through a voluntary early retirement program. The reform team aims to identify and achieve further efficiencies within the postal service. Musk, a key adviser to President Trump, recently suggested privatizing USPS. The Postal Service has faced an 80% decline in first-class mail volume since 1997 and lost over $100 billion since 2007. — news from Reuters.com
