Tesla Hosts Public ‘All-Hands’ Meeting Amid Challenging Quarter

Tesla has announced its first-ever public ‘all-hands’ meeting, live-streamed on X during a tough quarter. Initially posted at around 9:00 PM ET Thursday, the live stream titled “all hands meeting Q1 2025” faced technical interruptions but resumed at 9:30 PM ET. Tesla CEO Elon Musk addressed the audience, highlighting several key points. He announced that Tesla has produced 7 million vehicles to date and emphasized Tesla’s position as a top workplace. Musk also shared safety data and discussed the concept of a sustainable economy through “abundance for all,” attributing this vision to advancements in AI and robotics, particularly Tesla’s Optimus project.

Musk boldly claimed that Model Y will be the best-selling car this year despite three quarters remaining. He humorously joked about Tesla vehicle fires and encouraged purchases of the Model 3. Regarding the Cybertruck, Musk reiterated its bulletproof nature, though this claim is debated. He also mentioned plans for millions of autonomous Tesla Semi trucks and reiterated his prediction of global regulatory approval for autonomous Teslas within five years.

Tesla’s stock has dropped 40% this year, prompting Musk to encourage shareholders to “hold on to your stocks.” He referenced Tesla’s Megapacks and Powerwalls but offered no new updates. Musk claimed Tesla produces the lowest-cost per kWh battery cell globally and provided manufacturing updates on Dojo, stating it operates at 5% capacity. He highlighted the milestone of cars driving autonomously within the factory and praised Optimus as the most sophisticated humanoid robot.

During the Q&A session, Musk revealed plans to manufacture 5,000 Optimus robots this year, scaling to 50,000 in 2026, with external sales starting in the second half of 2026. Tesla employees will have priority access. As the event progressed, some observers noted its repetitive nature, likening it to an AI-generated video based on Musk’s past speeches.
