Subaru has introduced its second electric vehicle, the 2026 Trailseeker EV, at the New York International Auto Show. This model is slightly larger than its predecessor, the Solterra, and likely shares the same platform as the Toyota BZ4X electric SUV. The Trailseeker features increased cargo space and a taller profile compared to the Solterra, while maintaining similar body styling. It retains the plastic panels around the fenders, a feature that sparked mixed reactions on the Solterra.
The Trailseeker’s range is limited due to its 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a maximum of 260 miles. Charging capabilities are capped at 150kW, though it includes a battery preconditioning system for efficient charging in various weather conditions. Compatibility with Tesla’s NACS port allows Trailseeker owners to use Superchargers.
Performance-wise, the Trailseeker boasts a symmetrical all-wheel drive system powered by dual motors producing a combined 375 HP, enabling a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.3 seconds. Standard features include 8.3 inches of ground clearance and Subaru’s X-Mode system for enhanced off-road capability.
Safety and convenience are prioritized with Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology, offering pre-collision braking, lane departure alerts, adaptive cruise control, and more. Inside, the Trailseeker features a 14-inch touchscreen, the largest ever in a Subaru, along with wireless charging and connectivity options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Pricing details will be disclosed in early 2026, likely exceeding the Solterra’s starting price of $38,495 before tax incentives.
