Fast-food giant KFC leaves Kentucky home for Texas

KFC, formerly known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, is relocating its U.S. corporate headquarters from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas, according to Yum Brands. The move will affect around 100 corporate employees and numerous remote workers, who will receive relocation assistance. Yum Brands plans to establish dual headquarters, with KFC and Pizza Hut based in Plano, while Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill remain in Irvine, California. This decision aligns with a broader trend of companies moving to Texas due to its lower taxes and business-friendly policies. Yum Brands CEO David Gibbs stated that the move aims to ensure sustainable growth and improve service to customers, employees, franchisees, and shareholders. Despite maintaining some operations in Louisville, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear criticized the relocation, noting KFC’s historical ties to the state. KFC’s origins trace back to the 1930s in Kentucky, and its global presence now spans over 24,000 restaurants in more than 145 countries. — news from BBC.com
