Chinese battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) presented three groundbreaking battery technologies at its “Tech Day” event on April 21. These innovations could redefine the competition between pure electric and hybrid vehicles.
The first innovation is the Freevoy Dual Power Battery, which offers an extraordinary range of over 1500 kilometers on a single charge. This dual-core architecture divides the battery into two independent energy zones, each using different cell materials to maximize efficiency and safety.
CATL also introduced its second-generation Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery, capable of adding 520 kilometers of range in just five minutes when connected to compatible charging stations. This battery maintains high charging speeds even in cold conditions, charging from 5% to 80% in 15 minutes at -10°C.
The third announcement was CATL’s sodium-ion power battery, scheduled for mass production by December. This battery offers an energy density of 175Wh/kg, supports 5C superfast charging, and boasts a cycle life of 10,000 charges. It performs exceptionally well in extreme cold, maintaining 93% of its usable capacity at -30°C.
These advancements could significantly enhance the appeal of electric vehicles, offering extended ranges, ultra-fast charging, and resilience in cold weather.
