Delta Air Lines has offered $30,000 to each passenger aboard Flight 4819, which crash-landed at Toronto’s airport earlier this week. Operated by Endeavor Air, a Delta subsidiary, the Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft experienced a catastrophic landing, losing both wings and its tail. All 76 passengers and four crew members evacuated safely, though 21 were hospitalized, with only one remaining admitted as of Wednesday.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian praised the safety protocols and training that enabled the evacuation without serious injuries. Speaking on “CBS Mornings,” Bastian emphasized that Delta maintains a uniform safety standard across its mainline and regional pilots. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation by Canadian authorities and U.S. agencies, including the National Transportation Safety Board, flight data and cockpit recording devices have been recovered for analysis.
The compensation, described as a “no strings attached” gesture, aims to support affected passengers without impacting their legal rights. Delta’s spokesperson, Morgan Durrant, confirmed the offer, highlighting the airline’s commitment to customer care amid the ongoing probe.
