Apple’s Vision Pro, powered by visionOS, will soon support brain-computer interface (BCI) input devices, starting with those from Synchron. This support will be enabled through a new BCI HID protocol, integrated into Switch Control available on iOS, iPadOS, and visionOS. Apple also announced additional accessibility features for the Vision Pro, such as magnification and AI-driven object recognition. Synchron’s Stentrode implant, which doesn’t require invasive brain surgery, will become the first officially supported BCI device for visionOS. Trials have already shown its potential to allow users with ALS to control interfaces by thought alone. While previous demonstrations required unofficial methods or enterprise licenses, Apple’s upcoming protocol will make Stentrode an official input method for Vision Pro, enhancing accessibility for users with mobility impairments.
