FDA Issues Highest Alert for Tomato Recall Due to Salmonella Risk

The FDA has upgraded a tomato recall in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina to its highest alert level due to potential salmonella contamination. Distributed between April 23 and 28, no illnesses have been reported yet. Consumers are advised to return or discard the tomatoes. Salmonella, a leading cause of food-borne illness, spreads through raw or undercooked foods and improper hygiene during food preparation. Vulnerable groups include children under five, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
