Alphabet-owned drone delivery company Wing is expanding its services in collaboration with Walmart. The two companies announced plans to introduce drone delivery to over 100 Walmart stores across five additional cities: Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa. This expansion also includes enhancements in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Walmart’s senior vice president of U.S. Transformation and Innovation, Greg Cathey, emphasized drone delivery as a crucial element in redefining retail convenience for customers. The partnership began in 2023 with a pilot program in Dallas, reaching approximately 60,000 homes, and has since grown significantly. Wing CEO Adam Woodworth stated that the company is transitioning from the pilot phase to scaling up its operations. The focus remains on scaling deliveries efficiently while managing costs. Wing aims to operate numerous drones without proportionally increasing personnel. This expansion represents a significant step toward achieving operational efficiency.
