General Motors plans to invest $4 billion to shift production from Mexico to three U.S. plants, including the Orion Assembly plant in suburban Detroit. Full-size SUVs and light-duty pickups are coming to Orion, while the gas-powered Equinox compact SUV is slated for Fairfax, Kansas, and the gas-powered Blazer will be produced in Spring Hill, Tennessee. This move is partly driven by increased demand for high-profit SUVs and partly an effort to limit exposure to pricey import tariffs enacted by President Donald Trump. GM CEO Mary Barra emphasized the commitment to American innovation and manufacturing expertise. The reshoring is considered a major victory for Trump’s trade-and-tariffs policy. \n— new from The Detroit News
