Economic Boost in Amarillo from Korn Ferry Tour

AMARILLO, Texas (KEYU) – Professional golf is set to return to Amarillo in June next year, providing a significant boost to the city’s economy. The Korn Ferry Tour, organized by the PGA Tour, serves as a training ground for future professional golfers. Amarillo’s Tascosa Golf Club has been selected as one of 26 golf courses nationwide to host this professional tournament. The event is expected to generate millions in revenue, attracting 156 players and spectators from around the globe. Hosting a top-tier golf event in Amarillo will have a substantial economic impact, benefiting local businesses. “There is an economic impact on all our small businesses, but more than that, it’s something that will become a tradition. Families will look forward to this week and event year after year as we plan for the next 20 years,” said Amarillo Mayor Cole Stanley. Stanley also noted that tourism will drive revenue for local hotels, restaurants, and even dry cleaners. Korn Ferry Tour President Alex Baldwin spoke at today’s announcement, highlighting how their organization will boost Amarillo’s economy. “Very real, very tangible, it’s our players, our caddies, our staff, the corporate clients who come to be part of this and the events we host,” Baldwin said. OccuNet is the main tournament sponsor through 2030. “It’s going to have a big economic impact, and not just for one year, but for five. It’s going to generate a lot of hotel rooms and restaurants,” said Blair Broadhurst, OccuNet’s Marketing Director. Players and visitors will have ample time to enjoy the golf tournament while exploring all that Amarillo has to offer. “It’s an 8 or 9-day event, so it draws people to Amarillo and gives them a taste of our hospitality in this part of Texas.” This will be the first Korn Ferry Tour stop in Amarillo since its inaugural season in 1990.
