Haze or smoke on Delta plane forces passengers to evacuate via slides at Atlanta airport

Passengers aboard a Delta flight were evacuated via emergency slides at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday after haze or smoke was detected inside the aircraft, according to Delta Air Lines and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Delta Flight 876, traveling from Atlanta to Columbia, South Carolina, experienced the incident Monday morning when “haze inside the aircraft was observed,” a Delta spokesperson confirmed. The FAA added that the flight crew had reported possible smoke in the cockpit. The Boeing 717, carrying 94 passengers, two pilots, and three flight attendants, returned to Atlanta and landed safely.

Atlanta Fire Rescue assisted passengers in disembarking, the airport stated. The incident caused moderate disruptions to airport operations. Delta emphasized that safety remains its top priority, with a spokesperson stating, “Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, and we apologize to our customers for the experience.” The FAA has announced it will investigate the incident.
