Jamie Dimon defends viral town hall comments: ‘I’m not against work from home. I’m against where it doesn’t work.’

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon clarified his stance on work-from-home policies during a CNBC interview at the bank’s global leveraged finance conference in Miami. Dimon expressed regret for using strong language but stood by his position on requiring employees to return to the office five days a week, a policy set to begin March 3. He emphasized that while he respects individuals’ preferences, companies must decide what benefits clients and the organization as a whole. Dimon highlighted that 10% of JPMorgan’s roles are fully remote, such as virtual call centers in Baltimore and Detroit, and reiterated, “I’m not against work from home. I’m against where it doesn’t work.” Dimon also addressed backlash from employees, including a petition against the mandate signed by over 1,700 workers, stating that while they have the right to their opinions, the policy will not change. Regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, Dimon criticized wasteful spending on ineffective training and excessive consultant use but affirmed JPMorgan’s commitment to engaging with Black, Hispanic, LGBT, veteran, and disabled communities. — news from Business Insider
