Trump’s Economic Policies Gain Support Among Some Democratic Voters Ahead of 2026 Midterms

A recent megapoll reveals that a significant portion of American voters support President Trump’s economic strategies, with nearly a quarter of Democratic voters indicating they might back House GOP candidates in the 2026 midterms due to his trade-focused agenda. The Stack Data Strategy poll found that 22% of Democrats are more inclined to support Republicans in House races because of Trump’s tax-and-tariff policies. Notably, minority Democrats showed varying levels of support, with 18% of white Democrats, 24% of Hispanic Democrats, 27% of black Democrats, and 30% of Asian Democrats agreeing. Despite only 35% of voters approving of Trump’s economic management, 42% believe the resulting economic turbulence could be beneficial in the long run. The poll also highlighted immigration as Trump’s strongest issue, with 49% approval. Key provisions of his legislative agenda, such as extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and increasing border security funding, are popular among voters. However, Democrats criticize Medicaid reforms included in the bill, though 42% of respondents support imposing work requirements. Senate Republicans are working on modifications to the bill, hoping to pass it by the Fourth of July.
