Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., referred to the bill as a deal with the devil.
However, Steve Moore, a former economic advisor to Trump, emphasized that the bill is essential for supporting American families and businesses.
“She must not care that 80% of the people in her district will benefit from tax cuts, and if we fail to pass this bill, the Trump tax cuts will expire at the end of the year,” Moore stated.
“Does she believe that everyone in America relies on Medicaid and government benefits to afford food or healthcare? That’s absurd,” he added.
Moore argued that illegal immigrants and those exploiting the system should not have access to Medicaid.
“I support immigration, but illegal immigrants shouldn’t receive free healthcare upon entering the country,” Moore said. “It seems that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants taxpayers to cover free healthcare for illegal immigrants, which makes no sense.”
The bill excludes taxes on tips and overtime, but with a cap. Moore noted that the average family could save approximately $200 on their taxes, including the child tax credit, a policy Kamala Harris strongly advocated for. Additionally, the bill offers a 15 to 20% reduction in their tax bill.
“Remember, this bill primarily extends existing tax cuts and prevents a massive tax increase,” Moore explained. “I want to emphasize this clearly because surveys show that half of Americans are unaware their taxes could significantly rise next year.”
Some House Republicans expressed concerns about the bill’s effect on the national deficit. The Congressional Budget Office projects a $3 trillion increase in the U.S. national deficit over the next decade.
Moore suggested that reducing the deficit can be achieved by fostering a more robust and healthy economy, encouraging more people to work, and supporting small businesses and companies competing internationally.
He referenced the original Trump tax cuts from 2017, which he claimed boosted the economy, arguing that predictions of increased deficits were inaccurate.
“Why should we trust these projections this time?” Moore questioned.

“Why would we believe them this time?” Moore said.
