PHOENIX – The city of Chandler has announced a partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) to conduct a comprehensive 20-year economic outlook study. Approved by Chandler’s City Council, the research will be carried out in collaboration with ASU’s Seidman Research Institute, part of the W.P. Carey School of Business. The study aims to guide the city in making informed policy decisions as it updates its 2026 General Plan.
The initiative originated from discussions during a City Council meeting last August, which focused on Chandler’s economic trajectory and demographic changes. According to Stephanie Romero, Chandler’s public information officer, ASU will address key questions about the city’s future, including talent attraction, land use planning, industry resilience, and foreign direct investment strategies.
Funding for the project will come from the Chandler Industrial Development Authority (CIDA) through a grant, enabling participation from students at ASU’s Thunderbird School of Global Management. Notably, no city funds will be utilized for this study.
“We are taking a proactive approach to anticipate Chandler’s needs over the next two decades,” said Micah Miranda, Chandler’s Economic Development Director. “This collaboration with ASU will provide valuable insights to ensure our city remains competitive and vibrant.”
ASU is set to begin the project this summer, with the final report expected to be completed by early 2026.
