Several companies are eyeing Gaston County for expansions, including an India-based pharmaceutical company and a Chinese company that produces capsules for vitamins and medications.
The Gaston County Board of Commissioners approved incentive grants for four different economic development projects in Tuesday evening’s meeting.
The first company has been working with the Gaston County Economic Development Commission for “quite a while,” Assistant Director Alisha Summey said. The company, an Indian pharmaceutical company, is eyeing the Oaks Logistic Center, a 471,000-square-foot facility in Belmont. The company is considering an $80 million investment. If the company chooses that facility, it will create 386 new jobs, which pay a little above $60,000 per year, Summey said.
The second company is looking to invest over $150 million dollars into the Kings Mountain Corporate Center facility in Kings Mountain, Summey said. It is looking to occupy the entire facility, creating 345 new jobs.
That company, which is based in the United States, would create 117 new jobs with an average salary of over $100,000 per year.
A fourth company is considering the former Hunter Douglas Window Designs facility in Bessemer City, which ceased operations in 2023. That company is based in China and produces capsules for vitamins and over-the-counter medications.
The company would invest $56 million to upfit the facility and create 175 new jobs that pay around $52,000 a year, right around the county’s average annual salary, Summey said.
“They’re looking to purchase the facility from the current owner, who actually reached out to us,” she said.
Because the projects are still under consideration, Summey did not name any of the companies mentioned.
