وتُعد مجموعة الدول الثماني النامية – التي تضم بنجلاديش، مصر، إندونيسيا، إيران، ماليزيا، نيجيريا، باكستان وتركيا – منظومة تعاون اقتصادي وتنموي تهدف إلى تعزيز الروابط الاقتصادية والاجتماعية بين أعضائها. n nوتأسست المجموعة رسميًا خلال قمة رؤساء الدول والحكومات في إسطنبول بتاريخ 15 يونيو 1997 وفق “إعلان إسطنبول”، بعد مؤتمر “التعاون للتنمية” عام 1996 وسلسلة من الاجتماعات التحضيرية. n nويأتي انعقاد اجتماع القاهرة في سياق سعي دول المجموعة إلى تحسين موقعها في الاقتصاد العالمي، وخلق فرص جديدة للتجارة البينية، وتعزيز مشاركتها في صنع القرار الدولي، وتحقيق مستويات معيشية أفضل لشعوبها، عبر توسيع إطار التعاون والشراكات التنموية بين الدول الأعضاء.
