Egypt Advances Second Phase of National Family Development Project

The Egyptian Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation is working on detailing the policies for the second phase of the National Family Development Project. The ministry has allocated approximately 2 billion Egyptian pounds to implement the project in collaboration with various execution partners and stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health and Population, the Ministry of Social Solidarity, and the National Council for Women. Significant progress has been achieved, particularly in managing population growth rates and empowering women economically.

The project has benefited around 28 million citizens as of October 2024, with 90% being women and 10% men. About 66% of beneficiaries were reached through cultural and awareness interventions, while 31.5% benefited from economic empowerment initiatives. A trial operation of 10 family development centers has been completed, with three more centers handed over out of a total target of 52. Additionally, 1,641 nurseries have been established or upgraded, surpassing the target of 1,000. The project has also implemented around 24,000 economic empowerment projects, creating approximately 120,000 job opportunities.

The ministry emphasizes aligning efforts for the family development project with presidential initiatives like “Decent Life,” which aims to improve citizens’ quality of life. Building on past successes, the ministry seeks to contribute to the state’s strategic goals of human development through the “Beginning” presidential initiative.
