Dr. Rania El-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, participated in the opening ministerial session of the Egyptian-Gulf Trade and Investment Forum. The session, titled “Horizons of Trade and Investment Relations between Egypt and GCC Countries,” aimed to showcase the investment climate in both regions, highlight supportive reforms and legislation, deepen public-private partnerships, address existing investment barriers, and outline future cooperation strategies aligned with national visions.
El-Mashat emphasized that the forum reflects the deep historical and fraternal ties between Egypt and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, rooted in mutual trust, shared goals, and complementary interests. She noted that Egypt and Gulf countries possess strong, synergistic foundations to bolster regional economic stability. Gulf investments in Egypt remain the largest regional contributor, with promising opportunities across multiple sectors due to ongoing economic reform policies.
She highlighted that the forum arrives at a critical juncture amid rapid geopolitical and economic shifts, calling for deeper strategic alliances focused on enhancing economic integration and building joint value chains. The Egypt-Gulf collaboration, she added, lays the groundwork for a robust partnership bridging Asian and African markets while reinforcing regional supply networks.
The minister pointed out that Egypt and GCC states share complementary economic and investment strengths, enabling the formation of durable partnerships. GCC countries are Egypt’s leading regional investors and a major source of foreign direct investment in energy, real estate, financial services, tourism, and agriculture.
This long-standing partnership can be further deepened in response to evolving global and regional dynamics, especially given Egypt’s structural, financial, and economic reforms. Egypt is pursuing a model that empowers the private sector and redefines the state’s role in economic activity. Despite regional and international challenges, sectors such as tourism, industry, and telecommunications continue to drive growth momentum.
El-Mashat presented positive economic indicators reflecting sustained recovery and resilience. Gross domestic product (GDP) growth rose to approximately 5% in the fourth quarter of the 2024/2025 fiscal year, up from 2.4% in the same period the previous year—the highest quarterly growth rate in three years. This contributed to an annual growth rate of about 4.4%, compared to 2.4% the prior year.
She attributed this performance to Egypt’s macroeconomic resilience against external shocks, supported by policies ensuring macroeconomic stability, improved governance of public investment spending, and increased private sector participation driven by continued structural reform implementation.
The Egyptian economy has demonstrated clear resilience and recovery capacity following successive external shocks. This reflects the success of government policies aimed at stabilizing the macroeconomy, enhancing public investment efficiency, and strengthening private sector engagement under the National Structural Reform Program.
She also noted that the structure and sources of growth highlight Egypt’s economic strengths, primarily driven by strong performance in key sectors such as tourism, manufacturing, and information and communications technology—pillars of future development.
