Egypt Reaffirms Commitment to IMF-Backed Economic Reform Program

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a high-level meeting to review progress on Egypt’s economic reform agenda in coordination with the International Monetary Fund. The session included Central Bank Governor Hassan Abdullah, Planning Minister Rania Al-Mashat, Finance Minister Ahmed Kojok, and Investment Minister Hassan El-Khayyat, alongside senior officials from the central bank and government.

Madbouly emphasized Egypt’s full commitment to its nationally designed reform program aimed at strengthening the economy and achieving state development goals. He highlighted ongoing efforts to implement agreed-upon structural reforms, including subsidy rationalization, tax policy improvements, and measures to enhance fiscal transparency.

The government continues to prioritize macroeconomic stability, particularly through inflation control and exchange rate flexibility, supported by the central bank’s monetary policy framework. Recent steps include the unification of the foreign exchange market and targeted adjustments to energy pricing to reduce fiscal burdens.

Officials discussed the importance of maintaining momentum in structural reforms to attract foreign direct investment and improve business conditions. The investment minister outlined initiatives to streamline licensing, expand industrial zones, and strengthen public-private partnerships.

The finance minister reiterated the need for prudent fiscal management, noting progress in reducing the budget deficit through revenue enhancements and controlled expenditure growth. The planning minister emphasized the integration of social protection measures to mitigate the impact of reforms on vulnerable groups.

The meeting underscored the importance of continued collaboration with international financial institutions to ensure policy coherence and access to external financing. Egypt’s reform program remains focused on long-term economic resilience, private sector development, and sustainable growth.
