EPA Administrator Announces Rollback of Environmental Regulations

The head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Lee Zeldin, announced a series of actions to roll back significant environmental regulations. These include rules related to pollution from coal-fired power plants, climate change, and electric vehicles. Zeldin claims that these deregulatory measures will eliminate trillions of dollars in regulatory costs and hidden taxes, thereby reducing living costs for American families. Among the 31 rules being rolled back is the 2009 scientific finding that forms the basis for U.S. action against climate change. Environmentalists argue that these moves are unlikely to withstand legal scrutiny and emphasize the overwhelming scientific consensus on the dangers of climate change. The EPA also plans to terminate its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and close parts of the agency focused on environmental justice. — news from The Associated Press
