IMF and American University in Cairo Conclude First MENA Economic Research Conference

The first annual economic research conference for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), organized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in collaboration with the American University in Cairo, concluded with a call for evidence-based policies to address pressing economic challenges in the region. Held from May 18-19, 2025, the conference brought together policymakers, academics, and government officials to bridge global economic discussions with regional realities. Jihad Azour, Director of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department, highlighted the complexities facing MENA economies, including trade tensions, climate change risks, and regional conflicts. He emphasized the need for a regional platform to foster dialogue and innovative policy solutions. Dr. Ahmed Dallal, President of the American University in Cairo, underscored the importance of collaboration between governments, academia, and the private sector to develop region-specific strategies.
