Pontiac, MI — To strengthen its tourism economy and redefine its identity as a destination, Oakland County’s Economic Development Department has invited residents, business owners, non-profits, and community allies to participate in two in-person workshops on June 16 and 17. These sessions are part of an initiative to create a Strategic Tourism and Attraction Plan, leveraging extensive public input through surveys, interviews, and focus groups. Attendees will contribute ideas to promote inclusive, sustainable, and community-beneficial tourism.
In 2024, Oakland County welcomed over 16.7 million visitors who spent more than $3.3 billion, boosting local commerce, supporting over 24,000 jobs, and generating $426 million in tax revenue. An impressive 99% of surveyed visitors expressed their intent to return, citing positive experiences in shopping, culture, and outdoor recreation.
The workshops will take place in Farmington and Rochester Hills. Participants are encouraged to review the diagnostic tourism report, which compiles insights from over 1,800 individuals and 120 sector interviews.
