Briceño recommended that academics consult the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which he claims supports the country’s economic advancements. “I think they need to go talk to the International Monetary Fund. It’s not us saying that, it’s the IMF,” Briceño stated. The Prime Minister asserted that stagnation occurred under previous administrations and that his government has achieved significant progress in four years, particularly in call centers, tourism, and agriculture. “Guatemalans are coming to buy eggs, milk, chicken, coconuts, everything we have, and we need to take advantage of that,” he added, emphasizing Belize’s growth in agricultural production and exports.

El Primer Ministro John Briceño rechazó el análisis presentado por investigadores de la Universidad de Belize que sugiere que la economía nacional no ha mostrado progreso en los últimos veinte años.
