Economist Rashid Al-Sari noted that rankings of Europe’s most promising economies are shifting, with Greece leading two years ago and Spain topping the list last year. Portugal now stands at the forefront due to an unprecedented economic upswing, while Greece and Spain remain strong contenders.
During a Skype interview on Cairo News, Al-Sari pointed to several factors behind Portugal’s rising competitiveness, including inflation rates below the European average and a declining unemployment rate of approximately 6%, compared to the EU average of 6.4%.
He emphasized that Portugal has achieved a balanced approach between socioeconomic policies, allocating around 2 billion euros to pension increases aimed at improving citizens’ living standards. Additionally, the country is making significant progress in digital and technological development, alongside sustained growth in its tourism sector.
These developments reflect a broader trend of economic resilience and strategic investment, positioning Portugal as a standout performer in the current European landscape.
