Dr. Khaled Abdel-Halim, Governor of Qena, took part in the Regional Economic Forum for Entrepreneurship, organized by the Society for Community Development for Rural and Urban Women in Qena in collaboration with Plan International Egypt. The event aims to strengthen the role of social enterprises in advancing sustainable development and empowering women and youth, aligned with the ‘New Republic 2030’ vision.
The forum was attended by Dr. Hazem Omar, Deputy Governor, Magdy Nabil, Social Solidarity Ministry Undersecretary in Qena, Ayman Badawi, the Society’s Board Chairman, Mahmoud Shafiq, representative of Plan International, along with MP Naglaa Bakhoum, Dr. Huda Al-Saadi, head of the National Women’s Council branch in Qena, and various executive and community leaders as well as representatives from civil associations.
The event featured presentations on key development initiatives, strategies to support civil associations, and new marketing avenues for their products. It also included video segments showcasing success stories from production units within supported associations, followed by a dialogue session that discussed challenges, lessons learned, and concluded with several recommendations to bolster entrepreneurial ventures.
Governor Abdel-Halim toured an exhibition held alongside the forum, which displayed eco-friendly products such as banana fibers and related handicrafts, compost and vermicompost, animal feed, paper goods, energy capsules, recycled fabric furnishings, recycled children’s toys, food products including mushrooms, as well as handwoven carpets, pottery, and artisan crafts.
Abdel-Halim emphasized that the governorate prioritizes developmental initiatives targeting vulnerable groups. He praised the Social Entrepreneurship for Economic Empowerment project in Upper Egypt as a pioneering model supporting civil associations led by women and youth.
He explained that the initiative aims to equip associations with the capacity to manage community-based enterprises, generate employment, and strengthen their capabilities in marketing, financial management, and sustainability.
The governor expressed gratitude to local and international partners, affirming Qena’s ongoing support for initiatives that empower women and youth and foster a more equitable and sustainable society, in line with national leadership directives.
