Syria and China Establish Economic Cooperation Council

Damascus (Zaman Al-Turkia) – Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry, Nader Al-Shaer, announced the formation of a joint Syrian-Chinese business council aimed at boosting economic collaboration between Syria and China. n nThis follows remarks by Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shibani, who stated that during his recent visit to China, both nations agreed to enhance their commercial ties. n nLeadership of the new council will be headed by Fadi Al-Mahaymid as president, with Mokram Samir Shatahi serving as deputy president. n nAccording to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the council will operate under the framework of Syria’s established regulations for joint cooperation councils with foreign countries, with the decision taking effect immediately upon issuance. n nThe Syrian Ministry of Economy and Industry emphasized that this step aligns with the strategic direction of deepening economic relations with China, which have seen notable progress in recent years. n nThe ministry also confirmed plans to conduct feasibility studies to attract direct Chinese investments into priority sectors within Syria, including energy, infrastructure, technology, and reconstruction efforts. Additionally, institutional frameworks will be developed to regulate and stimulate bilateral trade and ensure its long-term development.
