(KOTA) – November marks one of the busiest periods for The Monument, largely due to major events like the State Volleyball Tournament. n nVisitors associate the venue with a range of activities, including Rush Hockey, LNI Basketball, and high-profile college matchups such as the upcoming game between USD and Air Force on November 29. The facility also hosts concerts and large-scale sports competitions. n nWhat sets The Monument apart is its multi-functional design. Unlike cities where event spaces are scattered, this complex integrates several venues into one location—featuring multiple arenas, a field house, a convention center, and a dedicated theater. n n“The advantage of our setup is versatility,” said Executive Director Craig Baltzer. “We bring diverse events under one roof, which isn’t common elsewhere. Most communities have these facilities spread out, but here, everything is centralized, making logistics easier and attendance more convenient.” n nThe current volleyball tournament is already drawing participants and spectators from across South Dakota, contributing significantly to the local economy. Attendees fill hotels, dine at restaurants, and support nearby businesses during their stay. n nBeyond volleyball, the schedule remains packed. The Rush hockey team will play 36 home games this season, and the LNI Basketball Tournament is set for December 17–21, promising continued foot traffic and spending. n n“Our mission includes generating economic impact,” Baltzer explained. “Events like state championships bring in visitors from all corners of the state, creating a ripple effect across the community. That kind of influx is incredibly valuable.” n nWith a steady calendar of events, The Monument continues to serve as a key driver of tourism and commerce in Rapid City.

Monument arena brings economic impact to Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – November is one of the busiest months for the Monument, and part of that is due to the State Volleyball tournament. n nWhen people come to the Monument, they might think of Rush Hockey, State Volleyball, LNI Basketball, and Volleyball. some might even remember some concerts or big-time sporting games like the SDSU and USD games. n nThe good thing about the Monument is that you can see all of these different events under one roof. n n“The nature of our venue which is different than most venues in the country is a complex of lots of different venues so we have multiple arenas here we have a field house we have a convention facility and we have a proper theatre so that gives us a wide variety of things to bring to this community and other places those are all separate you might have a convention center in this end of town a theatre in this end of the town and arena in that end of the town so it’s all separate here it’s all together,” says Executive Director Craig Baltzer. n nThe State Volleyball tournament is currently taking place, but many sporting events are about to fill the seats of the monument. Baltzer mentioned the Rush play 36 games here. USD is set to take on Air Force on November 29th, and then shortly after that, from December 17th to 21st is the LNI Basketball tournament. n n“Part of our mission is to create economic impact for the community, so a lot of these sporting events do that, and when you’re talking about doing a state tournament like the volleyball, we bring a huge economic impact from all over the state that descends onto our venue for multiple days, right staying in hotels and all of that, that’s terrific,” Baltzer added. n nWith all of these sporting events being held in the monument, it creates a lot of economic impact for the city. n nSee a spelling or grammatical error in our story?
