KUWAIT, Aug 18 (KUNA) — On this day in Kuwait’s history, several significant events have shaped the nation’s political, economic, and social landscape.

In 1952, Sultan Ibrahim Al-Klaib passed away at the age of 63. Throughout his life, he contributed to public service, serving on the Al-Maaref council and the municipal council.

In 1990, during the initial phase of Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, the Iraqi regime began assembling foreign nationals from allied countries at strategic sites in both Kuwait and Iraq, using them as human shields. On the same day, the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed a resolution demanding Iraq permit the safe departure of foreign nationals and refrain from endangering their lives.

In 1992, Kuwait and France signed a bilateral agreement in Paris to formalize defense cooperation in the event of external aggression, reinforcing regional security ties.
