KUWAIT, June 22 (KUNA) — On this day in Kuwait’s history, several significant events have shaped the nation. In 1925, Tunisian leader Abdulaziz Al-Thaalbi visited Kuwait and was warmly welcomed by the local population. In 1962, the first issue of the weekly newspaper Al-Taleea was published, with Abdulrazzaq Al-Khaled as its inaugural Editor-in-Chief.
In 1980, a committee formed by Kuwait’s Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah amended the constitution’s Second Article to state that Islamic Sharia would be a main source of legislation. The same committee proposed increasing parliament members from 50 to 60. In 1982, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree to establish the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and Nursing at Kuwait University.
The year 1983 saw the establishment of the Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) with a capital of KD 25 million, tasked with managing mobile phones and pagers.
